Q:  Can we have multiple releases/iterations in planning for the same product?

If there is already an active release for Product X, can another release be started for the same product? Could we have 3 releases in progress, where releases 2 and 3 serve as collections for future functionality?

Answer:

For the same product you can have only one planning session at a time.
Once you've finished one planning session and moved the project
to 'implementation' phase you can immediately start another planning session for your
next release.

You'll also see an interesting effect during 2nd release planning: as Yoxel has computed
planned start/end dates for the 1st release requests /per user, it blocks
those dates internally and the next planning session wont be able to use them
(to avoid double booking). Those internal blockages are actually updated
every time you check the status of your implementing release based on the
current status of all the requests. This allows more accurate planning of the 2nd
release.

Please, feel free to file an enhancement request if you really need more than one
release plan at the same time.
